Review of 30 Days of Night: Dark Days (2010) by Sean O — 20 Sep 2012
This was one of the biggest disappointment in recent times for me. I had high hopes for this movie because judging by the trailer it was going to be a very faithful adaptation of the graphic novel but sadly that is not the case.
It does not even work as a sequel to the first film, which in turn is very faithful to the source material. The story is very weak and the script was poorly written and the execution or direction is not good at all and the result is a bunch of rinsing and repeating that amounts to a very boring film that ultimately leads to nothing.
Most of the actors are wasted here in stupid uninspired action scenes, nothing to do or killed off too quickly. As for the blood and gore it has very little and it is mostly CG and looked very fake. This movie should have been a great adaptation of the comic which is amazing with a much better story and layered characters.
I gave it two stars because there were at least two scenes that were from the comic but other than that it was a very bad film overall. How Steve Niles, creator of the original comics co wrote this drivel is beyond me.
Direction and story two very important things in movie making are completely absent here.
