Review of 30 Days of Night (2007) by Shane S — 01 Nov 2010
30 Days of Nights has David Slade's typically strong stylistic vision and although the movie has flaws, I would recommend it to anybody. It's nice to see Vampires so visceral, especially with movies like Twilight taking up the pop culture scene (I know ironically Slade directed the third Twilight).
These vampires are brutal. They are fast and will do anything to kill you. They are very mysterious and have a blank stare that is absolutely terrifying. Basicaly this movie has some of the scariest looking vampires in recent memory.
The script how ever doesn't do these vampires complete justice with a few pretty cliched scenes but there are a number of scenes that completely stand on their own. The acting is actually pretty good for this type of movie, especially Josh Hartnett but some of the dialogue is cheesy.
All in all because of the loyalty to nature of vampire's which is brutality and relentlessness, this movie is a getaway from the tiresome sexual and romantic innuendoes that vampires have been pinned with in recent movies.
If you don't think vampires should wear leisure suits and sparkle......you'll most likely enjoy this film.
