Review of 30 Days of Night (2007) by Amy D — 27 Feb 2011
I'm not a big Josh Hartnett fan, so I had my doubts. I publicly take it all back. What struck me most was the utter humanity of the characters. Yes, they are able to survive and dispatch the bad guys, but that doesn't mean they enjoy chopping the heads off people they've known their entire lives.
I was also struck by the gore that was shown and by what was not. Vampires are dispatched in suitably gory fashion, but the death of the humans and recent-humans is left to our imaginations, as if it is just too horrible to show.
If you are looking for a sexy Lestat-type vampire, this is not the film for you--these baddies are more like the original Eastern European feral scavengers.
