The anti-Twilight. No sparkling fag-pires, no emo haircuts, no shirtless teenage boys. Just straight up demons of the night doing what vampires do. About as good as an adaptation can be when comparing it to its source. The feel, cinematography, characters and monsters are all right out of the pages of Steve Niles masterwork.

The acting is serviceable, although I will never understand how Josh Hartnett is a recognizable name in the world of acting. The characters are well written and pretty well developed for this sort of film. Well directed by Slade, who captures the edgy mood by creating unusual and edgy shots and angles.

Brutally violent and gory, and it is unapologetic about it. Great make-up and effects are completely believable. The vamps themselves are seriously scary. Everything from their body language, to their actual language is unnerving. What is more is that these vampires seem to revel in and enjoy torturing and killing their victims, like a cat with a mouse.

Every 13 year old girl who's in love with the Twilight d-bags should be required to watch this film, and then we'll see how much they love vampires.
