Review of 30 Days of Night (2007) by Suze P — 18 Feb 2012
It's a fairly decent and pretty original take on the whole vampire genre that Hollywood has come to known and depend upon in recent times, but there's a sense of the erratic, both in editing and pacing, that firmly keeps the film in the mediocre section of the scale.
The casting of Josh Hartnett in the lead role was probably a mistake, but he does his best with the material given - he manages to barely keep up with the other actors - but it's Melissa George who steals the show, her acting prowess shining through.
It's very stylish, which works in its favour, but the excess amount of gore and death may put off some who are expecting a traditional vampire film. This slight, but effective, ride may not be for everybody, then, but there's no denying there's some serious fun to be had.
