Review of 30 Days of Night (2007) by Tuukka P — 23 Sep 2012
Vampires take advantage of the Alaskan month without sunrise during the winter in this comic book adaptation. Director Slade gives us truly frightening vampires makinf them more like animals than men. The gore fanatics will be pleased as this definitely a hard R with lots of blood and gore.
Some early scenes have nice mood with sun the sun setting for the final time in a month and ominous happening in the beginning darkness. The chronology could have used a bit more explaining as now we're often left with the sense of "how many days do they got left" feeling.
The characters are a bit cliched and excluding the couple of main characters all you'll get is vampire fodder. The climax in the end also feels a bit daft. The premise and the beginning are the strong points of this one as it slowlt falters towards the end to an average action/horror picture.
