Review of 30 Days of Night (2007) by Molley D — 22 Oct 2012
I decided to watch and review this vampire film again. Different, more bloody vampire film I've seen before. Didn't make compromises, it was rather gruesome watching. The vampires are more inhuman than in most other stories I have seen. They not just drink blood, but instead feed on people, and can only survive away from sunlight. The negative side of this movie is that it has just too much blood and guts. Exceedingly violent, people are cut into pieces by vampires and vice versa, it's all shown there. The movie is all a huge bloodshed and concentrates a bit too much on carnage.
There was an interesting story which proceeded . The ending was different than I expected. Watching the movie intensely for its whole duration is a lot more than I can say about many movies, vampire or not. There is a lot of action in this film, but it suffers slightly from lack of originality, repetitiveness and overconcentrating on the violence. Is there a reference to the ghettos in the 1940's during the reign of the Nazis? I do not think this is movie bears so much resemblance to zombie films as some critics seem to think. Remember also it is based on comic books. In any case, the film is among the better new vampire films I've seen, mainly because of its gruesome portrayal of the vampires. This is no Twilight, its rather the darkest hour of the night.
