One of the best horror movies in recent years. 30 Days of Night has a great premise, and hard core thrills backed up by a strong cast.
It drags at certain points and could have had a tighter story, but is otherwise a very enjoyable movie.
If this movie deserves points for anything, it's its terrifying portrayal of vampires as they were meant to be. Trailers hailed it as a "terrifying NEW vision of the vampire" but it is in fact a very old vision, that of the Medieval folklore the vampire comes from. This film takes us back before the insipid teen romances crowded the big screen, even before Bella Lugousi or Bram Stroker. This movie brings us vampires as the distorted, ruthless, soulless, undead-monsters they were always meant to be. They aren't out to romance anyone, they're out to rip your head off and gorge on your blood.
