Review of 30 Days of Night (2007) by Kyler D — 18 Sep 2012
Good: Vampires look really cool, the situation is scary itself, high octane action scenes that involve running and hiding.
Bad: Plot and characters are quite flat, feels as though it could have been so much better.
In a time when vampires have been turned into sparkly, loving creatures, our generation needs a movie that will reVAMP (hahaha) them. While this is an overall average horror movie, it is one of the better vampire movies I have seen in a time. The monsters look really cool in this movie, and for me this was one of the highlights. They keep the vampire look, but morph it somewhat to look more animal like. The concept of the film itself I found creepy. Being stuck in a deserted town for a month with demons that feast upon human flesh. A very creepy idea. Yet another highlight is the scenes in which the survivors run and hide, these scenes are very high octane and it kept me wondering how many people would die, if any.
On the other hand, basically all of the characters are flat, along with the plot. I believe the creators realized they're film didn't have to be complicated to be decent, which is true. I feel as though this film could have been amazing, yet it fell down to be an average/slightly above average movie. This is a movie for fans of vampires that wish to see some new good vampire action. While it is worth watching, I wouldn't pay money for it.
