Review of 3-Iron (2004) by Alyssa N — 13 May 2008
Ki-Duk Kim is a master at forming poignant and fully-developed relationships between characters who never talk, and this film is a perfect example. His subject matter is somewhat lighter than usual, but it is still shocking in its unflinching honesty and unique vision.
Even though words are the easiest way for an actor or director to make a point, 3-Iron manages to be just as straightforward through silence. The pacing is also good, making this an intentionally slower movie that continues to hit you with new feelings or observations, and plot turns just when you're starting to feel settled.
