Review of 3 Idiots (2009) by Christina C — 08 Dec 2011
I have avoided watching it for so long, because I really liked the Chetan Bhagat book it's based on (and I ended up reading all his books), and I didnt want the movie to spoil it for me. and boy, was I wrong! The movie takes the book, retains the best parts, and improves vastly on it, to make a substantive comedy that is never high on slapstick, and even while conveying important social messages like how important it is to enjoy learning as opposed to focusing on just getting good grades, it never sounds preachy.
Rajkumar Hirani is becoming a formidable director, and I am glad this is the first Hindi film I have seen in quite a while. Aamir Khan is magnificent as usual, but the supporting cast is also top notch.
A movie to savor and ponder on.
