Review of 29 to Life (2018) by Maria M — 16 Aug 2018
For me personally, it is a tragicomedy. It reminds me stories about the legendary Charlie Chaplin's Tramp character. It causes sympathy, empathy and immediate acceptance because there are many people went through the poverty, loneliness and despair. As Madison (Diana Cristina) says to the main character:"There are many people are confused today like you, although they are married, have children and got a job".
As I see tramps in this movie are symbolic or metaphoric expressions of issues or problem of the modern society. Having a degree doesn't guarantee a terrific career. Probably the most bums looked different many years ago, but they got the wrong job, meet wrong people, then totally confused and got off track. Meeting with the right person helped the main character to change his life. The message is simple: There are many jobs in any city, but meeting with the right person is much more important.
I like Diana Cristina. She is a wonderful actress. Murphy Martin built his character very good. DOP is amazing. Light and sound also look amazing.
