Review of 28 Weeks Later (2007) by Steve B — 09 Jul 2011
Just watch the first one again instead. Everything in this film is second rate and relies on mass splatter produced through large scale CGI instead of focused, inventive and hands on special effects. It is in this mess that the zombies loose the terror they incited in the first one. The masses of zombies dont have the building horror of shuffling zombies, or the fear created by just two or three furied, pursuing running zombies. The plot... what was the point following the father zombie like that? Did they just want to get their moneys worth from Robert Carlyle. There is thinly veiled critisism of americas involvement in other peoples problems which just comes from over-idolising Romero and attempting to make your shitty zombie movie deep, instead of an intrinsic connection of the film and a political message. It's muddled, bloodsoaked, blink and you'll miss them running through someplace and nothing happening except the thinning of the unlikable herd. The breakneck pace that delivers blood by the minute will keep the braindead enjoying this film, I however, expect more from my zombie movies.
P.s. Rose Byrne is pretty.
