Review of 28 Weeks Later (2007) by Ian D — 14 Oct 2011
28 weeks later is a very good film, but it is a relentlessly pessimistic one. Its not exactly going to give your evening a lift. I prefer it to the first film, the characters are more rounded and the frightening scenes truly are terrifying.
It seems to speak of our inner darkness and modern warfare, as it is experienced by front line personnel and civilians. It can be intense in that way, and some scenes are pretty gruelling. There is real terror and horror in this film.
28 weeks later is well acted too and the special effects are good. I just watched it and I'm going to put a daft comedy on now to diffuse the despairing feeling it has left me with. There was no need for the scene with mum's eyes though, that went a touch too far into gruesome silliness.
