Review of 28 Days Later (2002) by Kevin D — 24 Oct 2012
My friend Ben has been telling me to see this movie for the last 4 years and I've attempted to watch it twice, but the internet failed me both times. This movie takes forever to load on the internet.
I finally watched it with Ben today and to make sure I'd be able to watch the movie in its completion, I got it from the library. Upon watching this movie, I can say that it's good, but not as good as some people make it out to be.
This movie has its boring and talky moments, but for the most part it's entertaining. 28 Days Later starts off with an interesting opening scene that leads to an interesting new way of exhibiting a zombie flick, or rather an "infected" movie, you don't want to call the creatures in this movie zombies or else the super-fans will go DP on you.
This movie throws away everything you've seen from similar horror movies: the monsters sprint at full speed at their prey and our heroes aren't afraid of killing their friends upon being infected in a split second.
The movie makes an effort at creating characterization, but I found the characters to be boring and the dialogue was un-inspired and only served to move the plot along. Luckily, as the movie chugged along, the plot got more interesting, resulting in an intriguing and watchable final half hour that engaged the audience and got them involved.
I was somewhat disappointed with the gore in this movie, since it wasn't that bloody, but the action was pretty intense. I also felt that Danny Boyle's direction was a bit over the top. I did like the musical score, especially the guitar.
The musical score set the mood and and it was able to pump up the action. You also need to hand it to the production staff of this movie for being able to make the streets of London look empty. They filmed real early in the morning and as a result, the film looked realistic.
This movie also has one of the greatest taglines of all-time: "His fear began when he woke up alone. His terror began when he realised he wasn't." Furthermore, 28 Days Later offers some social commentary on how humans are always killing each other.
This is a pretty good action movie that has been over-hyped.
