Review of 28 Days Later (2002) by David B — 27 Jul 2013
Only to see the whole of London desserted makes this the best British horror film for a long time and down right proud. The sense of patients in this film are greatly shown and filmed in digital film in some scenes gives it it's realistic vibe.
It's not over the top gory but it doesn't rely on that and instead the quiteness gives it more of a creepy style. An unkown Cillian Murphy at the time gives a great performance as does Brendan gleeson and the rest of the cast.
You feel for the characters on how to survive in the situration they are in and the speciel effects and make up and brilliant. Maybe a little daft towards the end but the film goes at a fantastic pace you just don't care.
What I like is that there is no proper ending (Maybe proven that theres a sequel) but there's no cure or no one being a right hero, which most American films do. Hollywood can learn from this and it's a modern classic.
It's up there with George A. Ramero's films but it's not really a zombie film though at times it feels like it should be. Best Bristish horror for a long time. A tough, smart, ingenious movie that leads its characters into situations where everything depends on their (and our) understanding of human nature.
