Review of 28 Days Later (2002) by Charles R — 25 Oct 2013
This is a powerhouse film, one of those perfect movies that's so viscerally engrossing it becomes a sort of "experience" that has people completely silent and shocked while walking out of the theater - yea, this is that kind of zombie film.
Boyle pays homage to so many crazy pulpy Romero ideas while also searing his own brand of gore and horror into the whole mess WHILE ALSO turning up the detail to 11, which is probably what makes the whole thing work so well.
The ending sequence is a dizzying scare-fest of nightmarish proportions, and the score (provided by none other than Brian Eno) wraps it up in so much tension that by the end it may be necessary to take a Xanax just to calm the eff down.
Words fail, this is a classic-level film and 5/5 if you can't already tell bar none my favorite zombie movie.
