Review of 25th Hour (2002) by Ivan D — 18 Apr 2010
Very powerful film, with a protagonist brave enough to show post 9/11 state of mind, brilliantly filmed and displayed in the "F**k you" sequence, though it really wasn't about a wounded man shouting his anger to the world, but merely an outlet for him(Edward Norton) to blame someone for his hard predicament.
"25th Hour" does not just show an impending jail time for a convicted felon, but also shows how many things can drastically change in a span of a single day. Though the film contains many emotionally disquieting moments, the one scene I particularly admire because of its honesty is the exchange between Frank(Barry Pepper) and Jacob(Philip Seymour Hoffman) on how, after that very night, everything will never be the same again, how they could not invite Monty for a drink and reminisce of better times.
"25th Hour" is not a film that carries out the nature of guilt, but it is about regret, of what could have been a better life.
