Review of 25th Hour (2002) by Brian G — 27 Oct 2008
Very well conceived film about the last day of a drug dealer's freedom before turning himself into prison for 7 years. Wonderful cast, well used, a particular standout apart from Norton is Hoffman as a schleppy teacher with no self esteem.
Some scenes go on a bit too long and the scene with the Russian mobsters feels a little cartoonish and out of place. Otherwise a moving film about living with choices made and the spectre of 9/11 hangs over everything.
As always, Lee makes NY a character.
