Review of 25th Hour (2002) by Henning R — 05 May 2010
This must be the strongest declaration of love to the city of New York ever filmed. Following Edward Norton's drug dealing character through the final hours before he goes to jail, we follow him and his closest friends as he says his goodbyes, makes his preparations and comes to terms with himself and his life.
The movie has several fantastic scenes in it: The Fuck You-scene, Pepper and Hoffman overlooking Ground Zero, the trading room with Barry Pepper, how Norton and his girlfriend played by Rosario Dawson met, and the final five minutes of the movie flawlessly told by Brian Cox.
The acting is top notch. Edward Norton is perfectly cast, and Barry Pepper manages to more than hold his own against Academy Award winning Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Anyone having ever been touched by the city of New York should see this movie, and if you haven't been you will have to go after seeing this.
