Review of 25th Hour (2002) by Ryan Gibbons — 16 Jun 2010
An Oscar snub, Holy crap what a movie. Never has Spike Lee made anything like this. The movie feels so real that it makes you think that your there with the characters it's realism is like nothing I have ever experienced in a film.
Norton was perfect for the role, He shows off his acting ability in probably one of the best of his career. Barry Pepper is also impressive. The last scenes of the movie are so well shot that it feels like Monty is in a dream it's hard to tell if it's real, If he had fallen asleep in the car and he was daydreaming or he was dead and he was in heaven or something, it's just a strange and beautiful experience even though it is short lived.
The last scene is exactly what is should have been, why did we have to know what happened? why can't we guess? The fact that the last scene makes people not like the movie makes me sad, use your imagination.
Spike Lee has crafted something that should not be missed in 25th hour. Don't miss it.
