Review of 25th Hour (2002) by Christopher S — 01 Jan 2011

A movie I like to describe as a "wolf in sheep's clothing" The trailer and the description of the film shows one thing, but the actual movie does another. This is not saying anything bad about 25th hour, just that one would think something more dramatic or exciting would have come out of the film itself.

I personally expected something more out of the whole last night of freedom plot line, but all you really get is a subtle drama that just moves along. With that said Edward Norton continues to give us A list performances and to me is one of the most under-appreciated actors going today.

Rosario Dawson is more sexy then usual, maybe it's because she was in her element, but she puts out a bit of a mellow-performance. Barry Pepper and Philip-Seymour Hoffman do an alright, but nothing like some of their more dramatic performances in other films.

I will say this, be on the lookout for one of the more entertaining scenes about the diverse nature of new york and the feelings toward them, it's social commentary at it's best. An All-time top 5 movie scene, in my opinion.
