Review of 25th Hour (2002) by Nicky S — 22 Mar 2014
A beautiful, very poignant film that captures a man's last hours before heading to prison for seven years. The atmosphere is of uncertainty and foreboding, trying to live fully in almost a denial of the inevitable future.
The a-list actors do great, and the filmotography is excellent. The story is great and it's a very well-crafted film, but it has a highly irritating, tacked-on ending which ruins the melancholy atmosphere that was created during the previous two hours, nearly 10 minutes.
It would have been a sureshot 5 star film if it weren't for the disappointing ending, but the first two hours were great, so it rounds to 5.
