Review of 24 Hour Party People (2002) by Josh S — 22 Feb 2009
Tony Wilson, a journalist and host of UK's Wheel-Of-Fortune, had a vision of being a record producer, bringing about legends like Joy Division and the Happy Mondays. Ultimately, he lost his shirt, but he had a blast doing it.
This film is a slice of life of that punk-new wave- latter groovie Manchester scene in the 80's from inception to demise. Unapologetically pretentious and funny, a docucomedy about a time and place sadly slipping away into obscurity.
