Review of 24 Hour Party People (2002) by Fergus S — 28 Apr 2009
One of my personal faves. It's paired with Lawrence of Arabia in my mind in being about Brits with strange ambitions. Lawrence wants to be God. Tony Wilson wants to bring distinction to Manchester by being a patron of the arts; he wants to be a one-man Medici family of punk rock.
There are so many great hilarious moments in this. "There aren't any vocals, are there?"; "How many people were at the last supper?"; the worst band name; "It wouldn't be the Isle of Man, would it?"; the origin of broccoli.
I could go on and on.
