Review of 2:37 (2006) by Maxime C — 25 Nov 2007
Excellent film. Albeit a gimmicky narrative (black & white doc-style interviews amidst a flowing camera a la Gus Van Sant's ELEPHANT), it is well executed. Each of the film's kids feels relatively authentic with his/her melodramatic (and potentially suicide-inducing) issues.
In high school, teens tend to elevate problems in their own heads to levels far beyond the reality of their significance. 2:37 captures this teenage 'draw-ma' nicely, yet the film understands that as petty as some issues are, they may carry great weight for some individual willing to hurt himself/herself over it.
Significance is all a matter of perspective.
