Review of 23 Blast (2014) by Claudia C — 31 Oct 2014
"23 Blast" is a sports movie about a high school football star who is suddenly stricken with blindness, which causes him to re-discover himself and question if he will ever return to his beloved game.
Though the story is nice and heartwarming, this movie is incredibly derivative and unoriginal. The acting is serviceable, at best, and every event that happens in this movie follows sports comeback movies to a tee.
As an example of a clichéd plot device, the game at the end of the movie just happens to be the game that could catapult the high school team into the playoffs and just so happens to come down to the last play.
You catch my drift? I found this movie extremely underwhelming and frankly boring at times. The trite approach to this movie has been done a thousand times before by better and more competent sports films.
This film is forgettable and the static characters don't help the movie's cause. You can skip this film in theaters and wait for Red Box. It's not a terrible film; just extremely derivative and unoriginal --------------------------------------------- C.
