Review of 22 Jump Street (2014) by Darian H — 23 Mar 2015
Funny. Heart. These are the two big things 23 Jump Street delivers. The movie is absolutely hilarious and packs a bro-mance story compelling enough to suit the film's needs. But like I said, it's hilarious. The writing is spot on with a plethora of joke genres represented. All of the jokes feel fresh and new. I laughed out loud too many times to keep track and completely lost myself in laughter more than a couple times. There are a few action sequences that certainly trade jokes for, well, action, but these sequences are far and few between. The bro-mance of Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) is a great sub-story that is easy to connect with. Their bond feels real and doesn't take away from the jokes. Instead, the buddy cop's friendship is the source of a great number of comedic moments.
I haven't laughed out loud this much in at a comedy since Talladega Nights. I would highly recommend (especially if you're a male college student).
