Review of 22 Jump Street (2014) by Troy F — 18 Jan 2015
22 Jump Street is a near copy of the first film, but its no Hangover Part 2 where its copy-and-paste. This film acknowledges what it is entirely and makes the idea of sequels a running joke. Perhaps its referred to a little too often (wink wink), but it does work to the films benefit, and the film does still offer some new laughs to be had.
22 Jump Street is the first film, except in college. In ways, its funnier, but because it is a repeat, 21 Jump Street was a little better for me, I guess first times the charm? However, the person who turns out to be the drug dealer (who shall not be named) in the film for me was hinted at a little easily thanks to her apparent performance, and I found this character unlikeable, coming off like a stubborn annoying child.
It perhaps works because the film is silly anyhow, but I still found the character irritating. Otherwise, it does succeed as mixing sophomore humour with clever writing. Didn't love it, but had a good time with it.
