Review of 21 Jump Street (2012) by Jamie N — 16 Sep 2013
Going in to the year 2012, the one movie that I was 100% positive would suck was 21 Jump Street. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum was such an odd pairing and all of the trailers looked awful, among the other schlock that Hill and Tatum had been in around that time such as The Sitter and The Vow. When the wave of almost unanimous positive reviews came in, I honestly thought it was a practical joke. There was no way this movie could be good. After months of refusing to watch it, I finally got around to seeing it. I have to say, I regret ever doubting this movie.
21 Jump Street is one of the funniest comedies of the 2010s decade. It is laugh out loud hilarious and the two leads work perfectly with each other. The humor is very intelligent, it doesn't rely entirely on slapstick or "bro humor". It has a lot of subtle jokes along with the very over-the-top moments and they all work.
21 Jump Street is a classic case of "Don't judge a book by its cover." I was sure this movie would suck and I ended up loving it. I can't wait for 22 Jump Street. Hopefully it doesn't pull a Hangover Part II.
