Review of 21 Jump Street (2012) by Shane D — 09 Oct 2013
For a long time I'd heard that as far as the recent crop of 80s TV shows turned movies, that this was one of the better ones. Yet, it took me a long time to eventually get around to wanting to sit through it.
It's definitely good, great even if not instantly forgettable. Both leads have their moments to shine, the running gags hit the mark and the self-deprecating tone nails it. Starts to fall away towards the end just a little and is saved by a well timed Depp/DeLuise cameo.
All in all, it's association to the TV show was incidental and it could've survived as a solid film on its own. I imagine the impending sequel won't be quite as dynamic, time will tell.
