Review of 21 & Over (2013) by Jc E — 13 Aug 2013
Exactly how many times can this type of film be done? Apparently, innumerable. The nice thing about this flick is that it doesn't really try to be anything more than juvenile. Sure it still sticks to the proverbial checklist of college experience tropes, but for some reason it's just a cut above most comparable flicks.
Don't misunderstand me. It's irreverent, unbelievable, and, in parts, just plain stupid; but it's still kind of fun. Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect) and Miles Teller (Project X) make for a pretty bearable comedy team, and Justin Chon (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part I) and Sarah Wright ("Parks and Recreation") play off them quite well.
It's not as insane as 'Project X' nor is it as hilarious as 'The Hangover', but for what it's worth, there are worse college experience flicks out there you could waste your time on.
