Review of 20th Century Women (2016) by Andres V — 07 Jul 2017
I felt a nostalgic for a time I didn't even live in. 20th Century Women is the perfect period film, so much so that it could almost be considered a docu-drama. Every performance is spot on, including Elle Fanning and her younger, male co star.
The film tells a brilliant story of generations colliding through punk music, hardcore feminism and a coming of age tale. The multi layered plot is further supported by strong writing, a near perfect soundtrack and beautiful cinematography.
This movie works hard to capture the time and place in which the events are unfolding. Every main character has a background, the viewer learns when they were born, how they grew up, what led them to the place they're in now.
This movie helped me to understand not only the generation before me but also the generation after me. 20th Century Women is a masterpiece of film that everyone should see.
