Visually stunning, almost gratuitous and rather avant garde at bits, I came expecting to be floored but oddly enough, preferred its understated prequel. (Watched this back to back with In the mood for love.
) Dunno how he does it, but Tony Leung manages to walk the tightrope - one moment, he's all heartbroken and you want to make the poor boy a bowl of chicken noodles, and the next moment he's sleazier than Vegas.
Zhang Ziyi was incandescent and gave the most touching performance of the lot, although Faye Wong will always hold a special spot.
