Review of 2046 (2004) by Grace M — 11 May 2009
Visually, it's perfect: balancing moody, dark moments with more vivid and erotic ones. Unfortunately, it was hard to stay engaged in the overly ponderous narrative. The themes of time and memory were deep, but the author seems to take too long to unravel the many threads of the story to reveal its message.
Perhaps the director got distracted by his own constant use of shots featuring gorgeous actresses in skin-tight cheongsam dresses with depressed expressions.
