Review of 2046 (2004) by Audrey T — 13 May 2009
The best part of the Days/Mood/2046 trilogy imo.
Faye, and even more so Zhang, are simply brilliant, they play off Tony masterfully. Carina is pretty much used just to make a reference to Days of Being Wild, while Maggie is used for a reference to In the Mood for Love. Gong and Dong round out what must be the most complete casting of women in cinematic history, or very very close to it.
Admittedly it took me 4 viewings of 30 minutes each to get through it, but maybe thats what I should do for all WKW films as I usually love the first 40 but then am not pulled in by them. The music is superb, the added Cyberpunk and Metafiction elements are always going to put a smile to my face, its just quality all round.
