Review of 2046 (2004) by James K — 29 Apr 2011
This movie has not a discrete plot and the atmosphere is that of a rather abstract one. I suspect the director has not intended to tell a story but rather creating a memory-like impression of some fragments of one's past experience.
Through the use of vivid imageries, mesmerising music and contrasting colors, it is a movie to take in slowly.
The film would not have worked if there was no voice-over. It was a pity the links of all the fragments had to rely on a voice-over narration. This gives the film a rather stage-play feel and so leaves rooms for improvement.
