Review of 2016: Obama's America (2012) by David B — 03 Jul 2014
2016 is a fantastic documentary.
Until the last few minutes, it is also quite even-handed, very unlike the blatant propaganda that typifies most high-profile documentaries these days.
However, the title was poorly chosen. Most of the movie is about the past, not the future. It's not until the very end that it gets to D'Souza's speculation about the future of Obama's America, from which the title is derived. That last few minutes is the weakest part of the movie, and the only part with much editorializing.
The strength of the movie is its careful, in-depth, factual exploration of President Obama's background. Fortunately, that's most of the movie. You would be hard -pressed to find a more interesting and educational documentary.
