Review of 2012: Science or Superstition (2008) by Justin L — 22 Oct 2012
A lot of these documentaries regarding the so-called 2012 Apocalypse, I find the science behind all the theories more intriguing than the theories themselves. Because of my interest in astronomy since childhood, I took several astronomy classes while working on my bachelor's degree. While watching this film, it brought back to mind a lot of the math behind these theories which were addressed in depth in Astrophysics. I was fascinated by how seemingly "'simple' planetary motion" can cause catastrophic results, not only on the Earth and planets in our solar system, but in other solar systems both in the short-term and the long-term.
I also recall when I took these classes that the 12/21/2012 issue was always brought-up and noticed how delicate the professors were in responding to these questions; in such a way that they would not with any certainty acknowledge what theory they subscribed to. They focused on the math/science behind the theories and presented it in such a way that one may decide independent of another what theory they believed as the end result. This film in a similar way presents the math and science behind the theories (though greatly abbreviated from what was studied in these college courses) and leaves it to the viewer to decide for him/herself in such a way that the average person can understand. That, I at least appreciate.
