Review of 2010 (1984) by Patrick D — 22 Sep 2007
A worthy, more accessible, more fun, less dramatic successor to the original with another fine performance by Roy Scheider, one of the least appreciated leading men in Hollywood. I first saw Helen Mirren in this movie and for years thought she was Russian, she did such a convincing job of portraying one in this movie! (Why isn't she mentioned in the Flixter "Cast" credits here, along with Bob Balaban?) The whole cast does an excellent job.
Excellent special effects. Two of my favorite scenes are the interchange between the Russian and Scheider at the Very Large Array to start the movie, and the brief, unexpected visit by Kier Dullea (where's HIS Flixter credit?) with his former wife later on: Wife: "Dave?" Dullea: "I once was Dave -- I know everything about him.
" Not absolutely necessary for you to see 2001 beforehand, but helps a lot.
