Review of 2010 (1984) by Graeme W — 18 Mar 2009
This movie was much lambasted in its initial release, director peter hyams(capricorn one, the star chamber and hanover street)bravely decided to make the follow-up..
Excellently shot and not slavish to kubrick's legendary 2001, with the great and missed roy schieder as heywood floyd, and nominal hero of this movie-2010 tries to answer questions raised in the 1st picture..
keir dullea returns briefly as David Bowman, and HAL 9000 is unnervingly re-activated..
Although not stunning, the picture has a life seperate of its parent, and works on its own merits-schieder is supported by a terrific cast:helen mirren, john lithgow, bob balaban..
.
The movie also is made with some intelligence-unlike many of todays movies....
