Review of 2010 (1984) by Dave V — 28 Mar 2010
The surprisingly good sequel to one of the greatest movies ever made. It's very much of its time, with American and Russian spaceship crews working together, albeit reluctantly, whilst their governments are on the brink of nuclear armageddon back on Earth.
The cast is terrific. Roy Scheider is superb in the lead role and there are good turns from John Lithgow and Helen Mirren (as a Russian spaceship commander!).
It's pretty faithful to the book, albeit they dropped the third, Chinese space ship aspect, for budget reasons probably. All-in-all, a satisfying resolution to the mysteries left open at the end of Kubrick's masterpiece.
