Review of 2010 (1984) by Luke M — 20 Sep 2010
A sequel to such a film as 2001 can either add on to its themes as an offshoot worth watching, or it can ruin its predecessor by revealing its open endings. 2010, for some peculiar reason, explains away the discreet themes and practically spoils all that 2001 meant.
I give it a three because aside from predecessor-spoilers, 2010 has some rather interesting continuity, such as the concept of humans in space magnifying the absurdity of racial tension. It's incomparable to 2001 in all terms, of course, but stylization and groundbreaking visuals are taken a notch further as well; the art has been sucked out, but it's still an OK space blockbuster.
