Doesn't compare with the first, which was a masterpeice. 2010 sets out to explain much of the first movie which while not a bad idea, does tends to somewhat cheapen the established mythology. This was not done with harmful intent, but it's simply hard to follow a movie like 2001, especially 20 years later.
