The legacy of 2001 is one of such unparalleled brilliance that any sequel would have to be extraordinary to be viewed as anything but a disappointment. Unfortunately, 2010 seems to be far more concerned with exposition than artistry for most of its duration - it is a fine sci-fi film in its own right, but it is hopelessly dwarfed by the enduring beauty of its predecessor.
