Review of 2010 (1984) by Dalton N — 30 Sep 2012
You think I'd step on this tub sober?
The Americans have researched, unsuccessfully, ancient artifacts that may have lead to the creation of the universe and existence as we know it. The Soviets approach an American scientist and offer to take him to find the last known spacecraft to have gone exploring for the artifact on Jupiter. Will the Soviets and Americans be able to work together and find what they're looking for?
"Why are you here?".
"I don't know. Maybe to say goodbye.".
Peter Hyams, director of Time Cop, End of Days, The Musketeer, Running Scared, Hanover Street, Outland, and The Star Chamber, delivers 2010. The storyline for this film is very interesting and well paced and delivered. The action scenes are solid and the cast delivers solid performances. The cast includes Roy Scheider, John Lithgow, Helen Mirren, Elya Baskin, Dana Elcar, and Bob Balaban.
"I'll be scared enough for the both of us.".
I actually found this movie while flicking through the channels and decided to DVR both this film and its original. I found the original a little better than this picture but both were entertaining and worthwhile additions to the science fiction genre (which contains few worthwhile pictures). This is definitely a worthwhile film if you are a fan of the genre and may be worth adding to your DVD collection.
"I don't think I like you very much.".
Grade: B.
