Review of 2001 Maniacs (2005) by Stephanie F — 18 Apr 2006
For those who do not know about this movie. It is based on the movie 2000 Maniacs! which was directed by the godfather of gore himself Herschell Gordon Lewis. I, myself have not seen the original but my grandmother (who sadly passed away in 2002) seen it and told me that I would have liked it.
The movie stars Robert Englund who is famous for his portrayal as Freddy Kruegar. He plays Mayor Buckman who he said in Fangoria that is the Colonel Sanders from Hell. The movie is about a group of college kids who are trying to go to Florida, but stop in a town called Pleasant Valley where they become "guests of honor" to the towns annual barbeque.
One by one the kids get killed off in very gruesome ways. The characters of the town that really stand out are: Mayor Buckman (of course), Granny Boone (played by Lin Shaye), Peaches (a sexy southern belle with a deadly set of metal chompers), Lester Buckman (with his sheep Jezebel .
Don't ask.), Rufus Boone, Harper Alexander (the town's deadly cassanova), the minstrels and Hester & Glendora (the kissing cousins). I really enjoyed this movie because it was horror, comedy, and a musical mixed together.
I especially loved the song at the end which is called "The South Shall Rise Again (the nightmare zombie bbq remix)". Kane Hodder does make an appearance in the movie at the very end. You have to pay close attention to see him.
He plays one of the 2001 maniacs. Ironically, they call him Jason on the end credits lol.
