Review of 2001 Maniacs (2005) by Dominic B — 24 Apr 2008
A demented and surprisingly good remake to the original Herschell Gordon Lewis classic about Yanks and such tricked into celebrating a small town festival that is actually ran by racist civil war-era ghosts that intend to dispatch them in some pretty gruesome ways.
This movie is actually quite enjoyable. Plenty a titty around for the trenchcoat crowd, tons upon tons of gore for the gorehounds, lots of laughs that actually come off as funny, and some great genre icons popping up here and there, especially Robert Englund who steals the entire fucking movie.
He was made for the role of the town mayor. Awesome flick. I cannot wait for the sequel.
