Review of 2001 Maniacs (2005) by Alex H — 27 Jun 2009
This is a fun movie. I can't say it's a horrible remake because I've never seen the original but this one was entertaining. Gory as hell and extremely funny.
Yes this movie is horribly acted and there are hardly any recognizable names except for Robert Englund and Giuseppe Andrews. Englund does a great job playing the psychotic mayor in this movie. He's hilarious in his role as a racist murderer. The characters are put together well even though the actors don't show it. This is one movie where you're cheering for the killers to just snuff all of the kids because they are so deserving of it.
The kills in this movie are really creative too although some of the effects aren't the best. Some of the kills are taken from the original but director Tim Sullivan makes things interesting with some new never before seen kills.
The set looks amazing, as if it were actually from the Civil War. The set designers really did an amazing job with this movie and even though the acting is horrible the set design and amount of gore make up for it.
All together this movie is one that you can pass if you're into solid acting but if you want some gore then go for it.
The Most Messed up part of the movie : The Black Guy is crushed in a cotton press.
