Review of 2001 Maniacs (2005) by Derek S — 17 Jul 2010
Tim Sullivan's remake of 2001 MANIACS follows a bunch of tourist as they find themselves caught up in an annual festival brought about by a small Southern town, that seems to be stuck in the past.
The first film to its own merit is dark, gory and at times funny as can be. Robert Englund shines as the town mayor, shining through with a stereotypical Southern kindness. Like the town itself Englund's character is devious and well in the know of the potential situation.
The movie isn't anything particularly deep, but it's a fun ride for what it is. Is it scary? I wouldn't say so. Is it graphic? Extremely. Is it funny? At times. Is it surprising? Yes and no.
Is it worthy a sequel or sequels? Most definitely.
